I love quotes. They can inspire, motivate, or move me. I have a “quote box” which is basically just an index card box that I decorated filled with index cards, each one containing a different quote that I consider meaningful. I have the box divided into different sections, so if I need a quote for something all I have to do is go to that particular section and pull out the cards and read the quotes. I’m adding new quotes all the time.
Below are my top ten favorite quotes from the adoption section of my quote box.
1. “If a mother and father can love more than one child then why is it so hard to understand that a child can love more than one mother and father?” ~ Unknown
2. “When she looks in the mirror, we want our daughter to know herself. It’s hard to face the world when you don’t know where your face came from.” ~ Adoptive parents
3. “However motherhood comes to you, it’s a miracle.” ~ Valerie Harper, adoptive mother
4. “Adoption comes from the heart, but the adoption process comes from the Law. You should follow your heart, but be sure you also follow the law.” ~ Irina O’Rear
5. “An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet,
regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.” ~ An ancient Chinese belief

6. “Children and mothers never truly part, bound together by the beating of one another’s heart.” ~ Charlotte Gray (This one is pictured on the graphic image above.)
7. “Giving birth does not make a mother…. Placing a child for adoption does not make her less of one.” ~ Unknown
8. “There are two different kinds of strength. There’s the strength to make a parenting plan and then there’s the strength to give that plan to another.”
9. “Having a child means a piece of your heart is walking around in the world.” ~ Unknown
10. “Children need two things. One is roots and the other is wings.” ~ Unknown
And a bonus quote said by yours truly - "Adopted children have two mothers; one who gives him life, the other who gives him a future."
Do you have a favorite quote related to adoption? Is it one I listed above? If so, which one?? If not, please share it!

I love #7. So many people seem to think that you're not a mother anymore if you place your child for adoption. I personally think that choice proves you're a mother, since mothers are supposed to do what's best for their children and not themselves.
ReplyDelete"Those who are judged the most harshly are often the most deserving of understanding." Von
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about this! Brilliant!
DeleteAgreed Monika! Good one Von!
ReplyDelete# 10 is on a poster, posted on the ceiling at my dentist's office. Everytime I go for a cleaning I stare at that quote....
ReplyDelete# 1 I heard on the show "Searching For" on the OWN network. I am sure it has been used by many though.....
My fav. one is many. Here is one I found:
"A birthmother puts the needs of her child above the wants of her heart". Skye Hardwick
@birthmom07, I saw # 1 on a website years ago and it's been a fave of my mine ever since.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a good one by Skye. I'll have to add it to my list. TYFS! :)
"Being able to Love means being able to let your heart walk outside of your body"
ReplyDeleteLoved them all Coley. Especially number 7. Very very true but not acknowledged often.
ReplyDeleteThoughts drifted to baby and then him tonight. And then the pain Of him saying "I've nothing more to say to you" right after I sent him a photo of baby to him. And it suddenly struck me how cruel he was. Though at that time I didn't see it/felt so. And the pain of comes whenever I pray for baby and then him too. Calling to mind "him" alongside baby like that makes me so sad. To think the two closest person who could have been the dearest people in my life are not with me.
ReplyDeleteWonder also how to disclose this part of my history to the guy that comes along next. Currently feel something brewing with a guy and me
